I read the first book in this series (Moon Dance) because the Kindle version was free. I really liked the book's concept and its main character, so I bought this second book in the "Vampire for Hire" series. While I did enjoy this book a lot, I'm not certain I'll continue with the series. The first reason is that this book ended on a cliffhanger, which I NEVER appreciate from any author. The second reason is that I'm picky about how much I'll pay for a book. I have to REALLY be invested in a series before I'll part with too many of my hard earned dollars, and I'm not convinced the "pay off" of this series will be worth the price. (I DO highly recommend the "Sleepy Hollow" 3 book series by Richard Gleaves though, if you're looking for a great supernatural read. It was worth every penny!!) The third reason is that this book had quite a few repetitive aspects to it that went beyond the amount needed to bring a new reader up to speed (in my opinion). So, the jury's still out on whether I'll read more books of this series...Product details

Vampire Moon Vampire for Hire Book 2 eBook JR Rain Reviews
Book two in the Samantha Moon series, Vampire Moon, has Sam having to deal with her sleazy, now ex-husband, who is blackmailing her. He makes her leave the home and her children, as he threatens to expose that she is a Vampire. He tells Sam that he has proof, a vial of her blood, and photos of her in a safety deposit box. He is using this as protection just in case Sam gets any ideas about doing anything to him.
Sam has a new client, Stuart, whose wife was murdered in a plane crash; along with 11 other witnesses who were flying into provide testimony against a criminal. They were on their way to a safe house, when the plane crashed. The client wants Sam to prove it was Murder.
As the story unwinds, Sam finds herself protective of a woman whose husband's main purpose in life is to murder her before he dies. This leads Sam into a confrontation with the murderous ex-husband, who thinks he is safe sitting behind bullet proof glass, goading Sam to anger and quickly learning you don't mess with Sam!
In this book the author takes Sam through a discovery period, Sam is learning things about herself and her special abilities as a Vampire. As a result of these abilities and her belief in herself, Sam has the courage to stand up to her ex-husband. You will love this part,I bet you find yourself saying, you go girl!! Again I am amazed this is written by a male, proving he is a terrific writer who has the ability to really develop a great character that appeals to woman!
Sam solves the murder, all the while coming to terms with her personal relationships. In this story Sam is involved with one man, while being drawn to an online friend she met in a Vampire chat room. This man is known to Sam as Fang, who tells Sam he has feelings for her and would like to meet her in person. Sam finally agrees, and here is where the book ends! Leaving you wondering will Sam go and meet Fang? This ending makes the next book in the series a must read!
I give this one 5 Stars as well!! Another hit for J.R. Rain and a must read for Vampire lovers, a Strong Woman character as a Vampire!! Perfect!!!Vampire Moon (Vampire for Hire #2)
Well talk about a cliff hanger, but not your typical action packed cliff hanger, but a ‘be still my beating heart’ cliffhanger! Oh whoa is me...
Book two was very enjoyable. I am glad that she finally dealt with the big problem at home, and is on to bigger and better things. Now off to see what the cliffhanger is going to do to my pulse rate.
Oh and still continuing with the audiobook/kindle alternations, and the audiobook is great.

(Review from my GoodReads page)
The second novel in the Vampire for Hire series was a quick, fun read. I began reading it on a Sunday and finished it just before midnight on a Monday. J.R. Rain is a multi-published author, and it shows -- only one spelling error(Keenix for Kleenex) and no other editing, proofreading, spelling, grammar or whatever errors. That, alone, upgraded my rating from 3 stars to 4 stars.
Okay -- so quick summary.
Samantha Moon has been a vampire for about 6 years now. This unwelcome, unwanted transformation has cost her home, family, and career. Her husband, Danny, not only left her but has become increasingly hostile and unreasonable in visitation rights with her children. But she's rebounding.
In this episode, she has two clients. One is a man bent on revenge against the gangster who masterminded the crash of an airplane, killing all aboard, including his wife. The other is a timid woman, whose abusive husband is trying to kill her. Sam's job is to find a way to bring justice to her first client, while keeping her second client safe -- now and in the future.
Samantha comes into her own in this book -- beginning to make peace with her new condition, confronting both the good and bad of it, and beginning to use her new powers for both herself and others. She's also beginning to find out more about her paranormal friend, Kingsley, and she's gearing up to meet her online friend, Fang. And along the way she decides to end the stalemate she's in with her ex, Danny. Might be interesting to see where her solution leads her in future episodes.
Hard to summarize without a lot of spoilers. It was a fun read -- and certainly a fast one -- and I very much enjoyed it.
So, what didn't I enjoy? The ending. I hate cliffhanger endings. They seem to be more and more popular, especially with fantasy authors, but they turn me off completely. From what I've read in reviews of the next few books, the cliffhanger ending seems to be a J.R. Rain trait. Yes, I want to know who Fang turned out to be -- but I'm not sure I'll go on and read the next novel, simply because I hate the feeling that I'm being forced to purchase the next in the series, just to read what should have been the ending of the previous novel. I think I have one other Vampire for Hire novel on my , but it's #9, not #3 (so I must have picked it up in a free offer). Most of the early novels in the series are available at a reasonable price, so it isn't like I'd be paying upwards of $15-$20 just to get the cliffhanger resolution, but it's just the principle that bugs me. Maybe I'll never get far enough into the series to read #9.
